An afternoon is Sal, an island that lives only for tourism. Amidst the restaurants and tourist shops, locals and migrants stay hopeful. Modu who is doing serigraphy work with his team for a tourism agency that is welcoming a French group from Orléans says: “I like it here. It’s not too stressful. Cape Verde is not stress. The police is not running after us. They don’t care. During Covid it was death. People lost their homes, didn’t have anything to eat. Now it’s a bit better. We have tourists again.”
